Letter from the Chapter President (05/22)

Dear members of the PMI Palmetto Chapter

As part of good governance, PMI recommends the Board reviews the Chapter by-laws (Policy) on an annual basis.  Our focus for this year was on Article V. which details the positions of the Board of Directors.  Our membership has almost doubled in the last five years, and our leadership needs to adapt to effectively manage the evolving needs of our growing Chapter.  A few examples of the changing requirements over the past few years include supporting a greater geographical range, a broader scope of certifications held by our members, and an evolving need to expand our virtual capabilities while maintaining a sense of connection.  In response to these requirements, the Board has implemented services including: PM in the PM, Book Club, Project Bites, Slack, Amazon member recognition program, the PMI Affiliate Program, and soon to introduce a Youth and Social Impact Program.  And we have continued to offer our Study Group, Tools of the Trade, Annual Symposium, and monthly professional presentations at our chapter meetings.  Each of these services absorb a significant volunteer contribution to manage the tactical coordination and collaboration to deliver them successfully to you.

The 2022 PMI Palmetto Chapter by-law revision provides for an increased focus on the service committees, or rather on the volunteer engagement required to deliver on the services offered to our members.

In summary, we are proposing two revisions:

1) the addition of two new Officer positions on the Board:  Secretary and Vice President

2) establishing a transition plan to grow the leadership and management of our service committees in the areas of Education, Marketing, Programs, Communications and Special Projects.

The changes proposed are intended to create a sustainable leadership model that can grow in parallel with our membership, and be able to readily adapt to change.  Please take the time to review the revised by-laws posted on the Chapter website Chapter Bylaws 2022.  Your yes/no acceptance of the document will be requested in June.

Best Regards,

Jeani Barchalk PMP, PgMP
