Earned Value integrates scope, cost, and schedule parameters of a project.
During planning, budgets are time phased to define scope, creating a base line. Work is performed and measured against the planned baseline, as a result the corresponding budget value is “earned.” From the earned value metric, cost and schedule variances can be identified and analyzed allowing definition of the following:
· Identification of significant drivers
· Forecasts of future cost and schedule performance
· Development of corrective action plans to get the project back on track
Earned Value allows both performance measurement (status) and performance management (what we can do about it) to be addressed logically and transparently.
